Nothing to see here. Move along!
Hillary Clinton’s campaign hired the law firm Perkins Coie, who in turn hired Fusion GPS, who in turn hired Mr. Bean Christopher Steel to produce a “dossier” of unverified “intelligence,” Democrat party tittle-tattle, complete fabulations, and Russian disinformation. One of Steele’s main sources was Igor Danchenko, a man who (you just can’t make this shite up) was on the FBI payroll, after being the subject of an FBI espionage investigation 10 years earlier.
Willing Dupes? or Deliberate Malefactors?
Well-connected people like Nellie Ohr, wife of DOJ poobah Bruce Ohr, injected this paid-for partisan propaganda into official US intelligence and federal law enforcement channels, and voila, Donald Trump and his campaign staff were colluding with Russia, who was indeed hacking e-mails and feeding propaganda to a dull-witted public ravenous for salacious gossip.
Director Brennan’s declassified handwritten notes reflect that he
briefed the meeting’s participants (including President Obama) regarding the “alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on 26 July of a proposal from one of her [campaign] advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming interference by the Russian security services. (Durham Report, p. 85)
The feds and the press went to work to stop Donald Trump, whom they believed was a secret pastsy of Putin while simultaneously believing Trump openly communicated with Putin via snarky sarcasm at public press conferences.
When Brennan was provided with an overview of the origins of the Attorney General’s Review after Special Counsel Mueller finding a lack of evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian authorities, Brennan offered that “they found no conspiracy.”
Relatedly, however, shortly after Special Counsel Mueller delivered his report […] Brennan appeared on MSNBC ‘s Morning Joe program, where he stated that “(he] suspected there was more than there actually was” with regard to collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election…
Moreover, Deputy Director Cohen advised that he had no recollection of knowing anything Trump was doing with Putin, as opposed to what Putin and the Russians were doing to interfere in the election. (Durham Report, P. 63)
Of course, it was all BS.
Crossfire Hurricane failed to prevent Trump’s election, but ongoing joint government-news media operations did succeed in hobbling Trump’s presidency, and with the help of Trump’s vulgar boorishness, saw him defeated in 2020 by an enfeebled, befuddled octogenarian.
It could have been Barack Obama
Imagine if the white, patriarchal DC Establishment had done this to Barack Hussein Obama. We now see how easily they could have. The fact that we twice elected a man with a leftwing white mother, an African father, and a strange and Islamic sounding name is strong evidence against “systemic racism” in the America polity or the establishment.
Yeah, rightwingers and racists ran with the crypto-Muslim, foreign born birther tropes (that, like so many mudball operations, actually started in the Clinton camp) but the smear didn’t work.
It Could have been Bernie
Christian Parenti writes in Compact…
Leftists should remember that Strzok and Page expressed just as much antipathy for Sanders as they reserved for Trump. If election subversion against Trump is tolerated, it will be practiced against left-wing candidates, as well. Election interference by intelligence agencies threatens the end of democracy. It must not be tolerated.
The Establishment has burned its credibility. It can no longer march out a military general, senior intelligence official or other “former official” who formerly occupied a formerly-respected government position. What will they do now?
