"Hell is other people"

The Totalitarian Urge

Plaskett v. Gutenberg

First, IRS agents made a visit to Matt Taibbi’s house the day of his congressional testimony, next, congresspeople demanded he name his sources during the hearing, and now this…

A Democratic delegate to Congress appears to have threatened “Twitter Files” journalist Matt Taibbi with up to five years in prison for purportedly lying under oath when he testified before Congress last month.

Stacey Plaskett (D-US VI) made the threat in an April 13 letter to Taibbi, accusing the Racket News journalist of contradicting his congressional testimony about Twitter in a subsequent interview with MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan, according to a copy of the letter obtained by independent reporter Lee Fang. (NY Post – Josh Christenson)

Thank God Plaskett isn’t a real congresswoman with a real vote in our House of Representatives. That body already burgeons with the dim-witted power mad. She fails to understand that the facts contradict the predicate of her threat:

As Fang noted on Substack, the EIP listed CISA as one of its key government stakeholders and worked with CISA on censorship efforts. (NY Post).

Unfortunately, the so-called “delegate” from “US Part Six” (if that is a real place) isn’t the only congressperson swinging her dick around and threatening to jail her political enemies.

Recently, Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) used that tactic on a gun-rights advocate in cutting her off as she attempted to explain an answer.

Porter later demanded a perjury investigation as a result of the testimony. (NY Post)

Robby Soave at Reason has the best take:

There’s a profound irony here. Plaskett’s likely agenda was to undermine the work of the subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government, and the manner in which she chose to do this was to threaten a journalist with jail time. Weaponization, indeed.

What say you?

Note: Yes, you may have seen this before. I posted it a few weeks back but didn’t draw much of a crowd. Destroying democracy in order to save it never fails to amaze me.
